State Senator Dan Bishop, 54, is serving his second term representing the 39^th Senate District in the North Carolina State Senate. Bishop has a solid conservative voting record, including a 91 percent lifetime rating from the economic/fiscal conservative group Civitas Action.

Race Details

This race was a special election and there were 10 Republican vying for the Republican nomination. Dan Bishop won the May 14 Republican Special Primary with over 30% of the vote, avoiding a costly Primary Runoff Election. Dan Bishop went on to face liberal Democrat Dan McCready in the Special General Election on September 10, 2019.

It was a very close race and Bishop ended up winning by only two points – or 4,000 votes. Bishop will have to win another general election again in November.
