Though this district is strongly Republican (Cook PVI R+17), the Democrats have been making strong efforts in recent years to win special elections in Republican-leaning districts, making it important to defend the conservative nominee running in this seat.

On April 10, Fred Keller beat Democrat Marc Friedenberg to win the seat representing the 12^th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.
